POSTURE ANALYSIS SPINE MEASUREMENT
Functional spine and posture analysis
Exact measurement of the entire spine in motion and WITHOUT radiology. The DIERS formetric 4D enables swift, contactless, high-resolution optical measurement of the human back and spine. The formetric measurement technology is physically based on the principle of Triangulation.
A light projector maps a line grid onto the patient’s back that is photographed by a camera unit. Computer software analyses the line curvatures and using photogrammetric methods creates a 3D image of the surface like a virtual plaster cast.
A wide range of clinical issues in the objective and quantitative analysis of body statics and posture, scoliosis and all forms of spine deformities, follow-up checks etc. can be represented.
Unique to this process is in-motion imaging, providing information about the interaction of individual vertebra and their relation to the pelvis that cannot be supplied by a computer tomograph or MRI scanner.
3D surface and spine reconstruction
Compared to other systems, the DIERS formetric provides both a surface model of the human back and a 3D model of the spine without using reflecting markers.
The curvature of the spine and position of the pelvis can be reconstructed through the automatic detection of anatomical landmarks which define the relation between surface and the orientation of the vertebra.
4D average technology
The development of 4D technology (3D + temporal component) has crucially improved the measuring quality and repeatability of the DIERS formetric system. The influence of posture fluctuations (variances) on results can be minimised by averaging a series of measurements.
In addition, measuring sequences for conducting posture analyses and function studies can also be performed (ten images per second over a period of around one minute to conduct a Matthiass test.)
Automatic detection of anatomical landmarks
No additional manual markings are needed thanks to the formetric analysis of the back. The anatomical landmarks (vertebra prominens [VP], sacrum point [SP], dimple left [DL] and dimple right [DR] etc.) as well as the spinal centre line and spinal rotation are automatically detected by the system.
Clinical application range
• Hyper/hypo lordosis/kyphosis
• Pelvic obliquity/rotation/torsion
• Craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD)
• Neurological examinations (e.g. Romberg test)
• Posture tests (Matthiass test, Flamingo test)
